You choose how much of customs and duties you want to handle. If your parts are made abroad, the simplest option is All inclusive (DDP): Jiga takes care of import duties and taxes, so you get one all-in price to your door and no customs paperwork. Prefer to handle it yourself? With Standard (DAP) or your own account, you pay duties as the importer. This article covers how duties work, the paperwork that keeps parts moving, and what to do if a shipment is ever held.
Who pays duties
- All inclusive (DDP - Delivered Duty Paid): Jiga handles import duties and taxes, so you get no separate customs bill later. Your DDP price already includes shipping, duties, and taxes, so it is higher than the parts alone but it is all you pay to your door. It is the simplest option if you would rather not deal with customs. Jiga may need a few extra details from you to clear it.
- Standard (DAP - Delivered At Place): Jiga delivers to your address, and you pay duties and taxes as the importer when the parts clear customs.
- My account: you arrange shipping and handle customs yourself.
DDP is available when your delivery country is the United States or Israel.
How duties are worked out
Like every imported product, customs sets the duty for it. The amount depends on the HTS classification of your parts, their country of origin, and the declared customs value. Parts made in your own country are a domestic delivery, with no import duties.
Duties are estimated when you get your quote, and the final amount is set by customs when your parts clear. With All inclusive (DDP), that is handled for you: the estimate is built into your price and Jiga covers the difference at clearance, so your price stays your price. With Standard (DAP) or your own account, you pay customs the actual amount assessed at clearance, so treat any estimate as a guide.
HTS codes
An HTS code classifies your parts for customs. For orders shipping to the US, Jiga may ask you to provide the correct HTS codes. Accurate codes avoid extra customs charges and delays.
If you are not sure of the right code, a clear description of the parts and their material helps determine it.
If you want our team to help you figure out your HTS codes, our account managers will be happy to help with it.
What keeps parts moving through customs
Most border delays come down to paperwork. Have these ready:
- The correct HTS code, when asked.
- A clear description of the parts, their material, and their end use.
- Your correct importer details: legal name, address, and tax or EIN.
- If a customs broker is clearing on your behalf, a Power of Attorney (POA) authorizing them.
The commercial invoice and packing list are prepared for you.
If a shipment is held at customs
Customs holds usually trace back to a missing document or detail. If you chose the DAP option and your shipment is stuck:
- Check the order messages; the manufacturer or Jiga may already have flagged what is needed.
- Confirm your importer details, product description, material, and end use are correct and complete.
- Confirm the HTS code has been provided.
When you choose the DDP option, Jiga will take care of this process end-to-end and will reach out to you only if needed.
